Workshop Description:
Ethics is a core component of a competent play therapist, therefore, it is important to consider the best way to ethically integrate play therapy with clients of all backgrounds. This workshop will explore ethical considerations in issues such as touch in the playroom and teleplay therapy sessions. Time will be spent exploring informed consent when engaging children and adolescents in individual and group play therapy sessions. Attendees will also discuss important ethical considerations when working with individuals from diverse backgrounds such as children experiencing poverty and immigrant/undocumented children and families.
Learning Objectives:
Explore play-based interventions to address boundaries issues in the playroom.
Assess ethical considerations in the use of touch in play therapy sessions.
Discuss ethical considerations in teleplay therapy sessions with clients across the lifespan.
Identify ethical considerations when working with clients from diverse populations.
Compare cultural appropriation versus cultural appreciation in play-based interventions.
Describe ethical considerations when engaging children and adolescents in play therapy.
